People Have Discovered Yet Another New String That Can Crash iPhones

Posted April 24, 2020 | Apple | iOS | iPhone | Mobile | Windows

Every so often, a new iOS bug appears that is capable of completely crashing iPhones. In 2018, for example, a bug on Apple software caused almost all of its devices to crash due to a character from an Indian language.

A similar new bug has now emerged, reports 9to5Mac. The new string of text, which includes characters in the Sindhi language and an emoji, can completely make your device unusable and require a forced reboot.

Apple has already addressed the issue in iOS 13.4.5 beta, but users running the latest, public version of its operating system can still be affected by the bug. That means if you receive a notification with the string, your device may crash or may stop responding to touch input.

The only way out is to force reboot your phone, which involves hitting the volume up button, followed by the volume down button, and lastly, pressing and holding the power button.

To fully protect yourself against the bug, you have to completely turn off notifications on your phone for now. Otherwise, anyone can send you the string and if it shows up in a notification, your phone will crash.

Problems like this are very annoying because the user has no control over it. Apple has faced similar incident for years, so it’s not exactly clear why the company isn’t doing anything to completely address the issue that causes problems with characters from foreign languages.
