GitHub Officially Launches New Mobile App on Android and Ios

Posted March 18, 2020 | Dev | GitHub | GitHub for Mobile | Mobile | Windows

Microsoft-owned GitHub is officially releasing the new mobile app for the service this week. GitHub for mobile is now available for Android and iOS worldwide, letting users access GitHub from their phones through an official client for the first time ever.

GitHub first introduced the new mobile app back in November of last year, and it was under testing with beta testers over the last few months. This week’s announcement marks the first official release of the new app.

The idea with GitHub for mobile is to give users the ability to keep up with their GitHub activities while on the move. It’s not meant to be a powerful client like the desktop app where you can actually make commits, edit files, etc. Instead, it’s more focused on things like notifications, pull requests, etc.

Here are the features of the app:

  • Browse your latest notifications
  • Read, react, and reply to Issues and Pull Requests
  • Review and merge Pull Requests
  • Organize Issues with labels, assignees, projects, and more
  • Browse your files and code

GitHub for mobile is available for download here.
