The OnePlus 7T will offer 'the best charging solution for real-world usage'

Posted September 20, 2019 | Mobile | News

Just in case you weren’t pumped up for that big OnePlus announcement next week, the company is ready to reveal yet another new feature and major selling point of its latest T-branded flagship device. While the full spec sheets of both the 7T and 7T Pro have been leaked precisely seven days ago, CEO Pete Lau is trying to keep the buzz alive by trumpeting and detailing a proprietary technology dubbed Warp Charge 30T.

As the name suggests, this builds on the impressive foundation of the Warp Charge 30 functionality supported by the OnePlus 7 Pro, improving those already insane charging speeds by 23 percent. Because the non-Pro variant is expected to be released stateside this time around, it seems the OnePlus 7 will be able to reach 30W rates, offering what the company believes is the “best charging solution for real-world usage.”
By real-world usage, Lau is referring to the speed at which OnePlus handsets can draw energy even while being used without any overheating risks. If you want to talk numbers, the company claimed its previous Warp Charge standard could get the 7 Pro “ready to go in just 20 minutes.” Of course, the Snapdragon 855 powerhouse needs a little more than that to go from 0 to 100 percent battery capacity. Specifically, about an hour and 15 minutes, according to our own real-life testing.
At the end of the day, what makes the Warp Charge 30 and 30T solutions special is the way OnePlus avoids overheating, handling the power management “inside of the power brick instead of inside the phone.” That might matter more to future OnePlus 7T owners than a charging time reduction of a few minutes, meaning you can game while juicing up your handset without a worry in the world.
Oh, and by the way, it doesn’t look like wireless charging will be added to the company’s phones this fall either. The technology is still not deemed mature enough to offer the “fast experience” OnePlus feels “comfortable” supporting.
