OnePlus 7T leaks with huge rear camera module, familiar front

Posted August 24, 2019 | Mobile | News

The OnePlus 7 is only three months old but that isn’t stopping a successor from being created. The new device will reportedly be marketed as the OnePlus 7T and should debut in late September. But today, with over one month left to go, tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer has returned with new CAD-based renders that showcase what’s understood to be the flagship’s final design.

A drastically redesigned camera module and an extra sensor

Corroborating recent design rumors, today’s renders of the OnePlus 7T showcase the presence of a huge circular camera module on the rear which houses an updated setup that’ll undoubtedly help maintain a competitive edge over rival devices.

Just like the OnePlus 7 Pro, the OnePlus 7T looks set to adopt a triple-camera setup on the rear, albeit one that’s aligned horizontally rather than vertically. This is paired with a dual-LED flash which appears slightly larger than the OnePlus 7’s alternative. The specifications and functionalities of each sensor are yet to be revealed but one of the cameras should land paired with either a telephoto or super-wide-angle lens. The remaining ones, on the other hand, will likely act as a primary camera and a depth sensor. Also, to keep things looking unique, OnePlus has separated the cameras with a set of angular lines.

The rear panel, as expected, is carved out of a single slab of glass and is also home to the OnePlus logo. However, today’s renders suggest the ‘OnePlus’ branding along the bottom could be removed on the OnePlus 7T.

One important change has been made to the display

From the front, the OnePlus 7T is almost indistinguishable at first glance from the OnePlus 7, which itself bears a very close resemblance to last year’s OnePlus 6T. This similarity can be attributed to the presence of a notched display up front paired with equally thin bezels and a large speaker grill above. However, one important change has been made.

According to the information provided by Hemmerstoffer, the OnePlus 7T will feature a 6.5-inch display that’ll likely be an Optic AMOLED panel. This is slightly larger than the 6.4-inch display found on the OnePlus 7 and naturally means that the upcoming flagship will be a little larger. For reference, the OnePlus 7 measures in 157.7 x 74.8 x 8.2mm whereas the upcoming OnePlus 7T’s dimensions sit at 161.2 x 74.5 x 8.3mm.

The aluminum frame of the OnePlus 7T looks not different to the one found on the OnePlus 7. Along the right side sits the power key and the company’s trademark Alert Slider while the left is home to a volume rocker. The top of the phone, on the other hand, seems to house a microphone and the bottom features a USB-C port, the SIM card tray, and a second microphone.
