Minecraft is Now Officially Available on Chromebooks

Posted June 7, 2023 | Chrome OS | Chromebook | Games | Minecraft | Mobile | Windows

Minecraft is officially launching on Chromebooks today. The popular sandbox game previously launched in early access on Chromebooks back in March, but until now it was only available on select models that met the minimum requirements.

Google said today that Minecraft for Chromebooks is available on all Chromebooks that launched in the past three years. The game support both ARM and x86 processors, and the minimum requirements include Chrome OS 111, 4GB of RAM, and a minimum of 1GB of storage.

Minecraft for Chromebook is the Bedrock Edition of the game, which means that it supports cross-play multiplayer and access to the Minecraft Marketplace and Minecraft Realms. Chromebook users can also enjoy the just-released Trails & Tales update, which includes new mobs, blocks, and items, as well as the ability to share camel rides with other players.

If Minecraft for Education has been available on Chromebooks since 2020, it took 3 years for the regular to finally arrive on Chrome OS. Minecraft for Chromebooks is priced at $19.99 on the Google Play Store, and it includes the Android version for free. If you already own the Android version of the game, you can upgrade to the Chromebook version for $13.00.
