Microsoft has started testing a new option to mute startup sounds on Xbox consoles. The new setting is available in the latest build for Xbox Insiders in the Dev Channel, and it should roll out to all users in the coming weeks.

The ability to mute startup sounds has been a popular request from Xbox gamers. Hearing a loot boot sound every time an Xbox console turns on gets old pretty quickly, and it’s great that the Xbox team has finally listened. Last year, the company also added the option to mute speaker audio when you connect a headset to an Xbox, which was another top-requested feature.

If you’re an Xbox Insider on the Alpha ring, the option to mute startup sounds is available in Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Additional options. Microsoft previously added there an option to mute all navigation sounds as well.

In case you missed it yesterday, Microsoft also released the September 2022 update for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The new bits bring a full library view that combines the games you own plus other titles coming from game subscription services. The update also added a new default install option for current-gen and backward-compatible games.
