Apple to skip USB-C on iPhone 12/Pro 5G before going portless next year

Despite adopting USB-C on the iPad Pro and even testing the connector on some iPhone prototypes in recent years, Apple has once again chosen to fit the next iPhone series with its proprietary Lightning port.
Apple is planning another year of Lightning
Leaker Fudge, who has previously shared several iOS 14 leaks and an iPhone 12 Pro sketch that showcased the new camera layout, says the USB-C iPhone 12 series prototypes that were being worked on internally have not been given the green light for production.
Apple has instead decided to stick with the proprietary Lightning connector, which was first introduced on the iPhone 5 in 2012, for another generation. That is far from surprising considering most people now believe Apple will never adopt USB-C on the iPhone.
The company is largely expected to ditch ports entirely, as opposed to adopting a different non-proprietary one, and Fudge corroborates rumors about that move potentially happening next year on the iPhone 13.
Apple has made no secret of its wireless vision but existing wireless technologies aren’t yet up to par with their wired equivalents. That is why Fudge believes Apple’s going to introduce a different type of charger in 2021.
Lightning may be replaced with a magnetic charger in 2021
Rather than forcing customers to purchase a wireless charger, which are sometimes inconvenient to use and typically slower than traditional chargers, the leaker in question suggests Apple is planning a Smart Connector-like magnetic charger to replace Lightning.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed back in December that Apple was planning to remove all ports from the 2021 iPhone 13 Pro Max. Leaker Fudge, however, has suggested that it could happen on the entire iPhone 13 series.
In fact, rumor has it that the company is working on two wireless chargers at the moment. One of them may be marketed as AirPower Mini and will be able to charge one product at a time, the other should be known as AirPower and, like the original concept, will be able to charge three devices at once.
