That’s because with the update comes the Deep Fusion technology that will improve images snapped with the cameras on the 2019 iPhones. Deep Fusion captures eight images of a scene using various exposures before the shutter is pressed. The nine frames created are examined pixel-by-pixel using the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in the A13 Bionic chip to produce a final image with better details and less noise.

Both will also sync with Apple Watch units driven by watchOS 6.1.
