Best Buy has all three Google Pixel Slate variants on sale at a hefty $250 discount

Posted July 21, 2019 | Mobile | News

Released less than a year ago, the Pixel Slate will be left without a sequel, as Google’s in-house hardware efforts are shifting squarely towards a rapidly expanding smartphone lineup and high-end laptops that haven’t exactly been able to challenge Apple’s MacBooks in the mainstream tech scene. Of course, the same can definitely be said about the search giant’s Chrome OS-powered 12.3-inch tablet next to the crazy popular iPad family, but at the right price, purchasing a Pixel Slate doesn’t sound like such a bad idea these days.

Normally available for $799 in an entry-level Intel Core m3 configuration (after a cheaper Celeron variant was prematurely discontinued), the razor-thin and versatile slate can be had for 24 hours only starting at $549. Best Buy is currently offering massive $250 discounts on all three Pixel Slate models in stock, which means $749 is enough to get you a substantial Intel Core i5 processing power upgrade, while an ultra-high-end Core i7 version will set you back $1,349 instead of $1,599.

Apart from more muscle, the Core i5 and i7 configurations come with larger solid-state drives as well, bumping the storage capacity of the entry-level variant from 64 to 128 and 256 gigs respectively. Last but certainly not least, it’s important to highlight the costliest of the three Pixel Slates on sale today packs a whopping 16GB RAM, compared to “only” 8 as far as the other two are concerned.

Coated in “Midnight Blue”, the Chrome OS tablet measures a slender 7mm in depth, tipping the scales at a somewhat cumbersome 731 grams while promising a decent 12 hours of battery life between charges in “mixed” use. Made from premium aluminum, this big guy can run Android apps natively, also having a beautiful “Molecular” display with 3000 x 2000 pixel resolution, dual front-firing speakers, a wide-angle 8MP front camera, fingerprint scanner, and two USB-C ports going for it.

All in all, this bad boy seems like a phenomenal alternative for Apple’s newest 12.9-inch iPad Pro at a starting price of 550 bucks, even though you obviously need to pay extra for a keyboard and Pixelbook Pen.
