You Will Soon Be Able to Block Ads on Microsoft Edge for Android

Posted June 19, 2018 | Adblock PLus | Android | Edge for Android | Microsoft | Windows

Microsoft is testing a new update for Edge on Android that will bring a much-awaited feature: ad blocking. The company today started testing a new beta of the Edge browser on Android, as first reported by MSPU.

The beta brings a new content blocking feature, which essentially blocks ads on websites. The content blocking is powered by AdBlock Plus, so it will presumably block the same ads as the AdBlock Plus extension does on the desktop. Edge on Mobile obviously doesn’t support extensions, and so Microsoft is directly integrating AdBlock Plus into the browser on Android. You’ll be able to enable the feature by going into Settings > Block Content if you are running the latest beta on Android.

Browser makers integrating ad-blocking right into the browser is slowly becoming a trend, especially with all the privacy concerns. Google’s Chrome browser already has a built-in ad-blocker that only blocks ads that are considered to be degrading the user experience of websites. Microsoft is also expected to integrate something similar to Edge on the desktop, but the Android version of the browser’s content blocker will presumably block every ad on sites. Either way, you can try it out here if you have an Android phone.
