Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Check out the Inspire sessions

Be sure to check out the Windows 11 and Windows 365 sessions at Inspire. Some good info in there.

Also: Get over the JavaScript hump

If you’ve spent a lot of time trying to learn to code with JavaScript and find this language infuriating and/or confusing, Just JavaScript might help. It’s only $25 right now, and it offers a new way of looking at things (well, JavaScript in particular) that I find helpful. You might too. Ex: “Expressions are questions that JavaScript can answer. JavaScript answers expressions in the only way it knows how—with values.”

App pick of the week: A few interesting picks

Chrome 92 adds more privacy protections

DuckDuckGo announces an Email Protection service

Visual Studio Code now has built-in JavaScript debugging

Enterprise pick of the week: SharePoint Server Subscription Edition

The next on-premises version of SharePoint Server is due out later this year. As Microsoft execs said last year, this one will require a subscription (not optional) to get security updates, fixes, etc. That’s why it’s designated SharePoint Server Subscription Edition. No pricing info available yet. It’s in public preview as of this week.

Codename pick of the week: Project Moca

Project Moca (Outlook Spaces) got its start as a new feature for Outlook for the Web. Then Microsoft switched gears and is now rolling Moca into the new Outlook Calendar board. Microsoft has deemed Project Moca “a success” even though officials spent a lot of time declining to comment about its existence. Huzzah!

Beer pick of the week: Finback Orange Crush

Finback Orange Crush is a Double IPA with Mandarin and Blood Orange dry hopped with Citra & Mosaic. Collaboration with RAR Brewing from Maryland. Especially in summer, you see craft brewers using combinations of hops, ingredients and sometimes lactose to make beers that taste like other drinks (and foods). This one is like a delicious, natural orange soda that is smooth and way too easy to drink (at 8.3%)
