Microsoft today released the Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows 10 version 2004. Like the operating system version on which it is based, the SDK is also known as build 19041.

“The Windows 10 SDK for Windows 10 version 2004 is now available with a go-live license,” the Windows Developer team writes. “Build 19041, also known as the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, is now in the Release Preview Windows Insider ring [as well].”

Mehedi wrote about this latest in a long string of would-be final builds for Windows 10 version 2004 earlier today. As far as the SDK goes, this new version allows developers to write applications that specifically target new features in this release. But Microsoft is also highlighting updates to the app model(s), including the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) 2, the Hosted App Model that powers Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) on Microsoft Edge, and a new type of MSIX packages called Sparse Signed Packages.

Developers interested in targeting Windows 10 version 2004 will need to update Visual Studio via the Visual Studio Installer application and add the Windows 10 SDK (10.0.19041) under Individual Components > SDKs, libraries, and frameworks. When Windows 10 version 2004 is finally public later this month, developers can also upgrade the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) workload to get the 19041 update.
