Twitter Now Supports Third-Party Apps for 2FA

Posted December 20, 2017 | 2FA | Security | Social | Twitter | Windows

Twitter is rolling out a major update to login verification, also known as two-factor authentication, across all platforms today. The social network is adding the ability to use third-party apps for login verification which should be a welcome addition for many users. Finally.

To this date, users had no other option than relying on SMS two-factor authentication for their Twitter account. But with today’s update, you can setup two-factor authentication to work with apps like Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or Authy.

Setting up login verification on a third-party app for your Twitter account is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is head over to your Twitter account settings, find login verification from the Security tab, click on “Review your login verification methods” and set up the mobile security app. If you don’t already have two-factor authentication enabled, you will be required to set it up through the usual process, but do keep in mind that it will use SMS for two-factor authentication by default.
