Samsung Introduces Galaxy S20 Line

It’s official. After countless rumors and leaks for months, Samsung’s next generation of Galaxy S devices is finally here.

The company today introduced the world to its new Galaxy S20 line, confirming the new branding. Instead of launching the Galaxy S11 line, Samsung is making a huge jump from the S10 to the S20.

Samsung’s new S20 line is made up of three new phones: the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S20 Plus, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The three devices are mostly identical in terms of design, but there are some important differences in the hardware.

The entire line is powered by the Snapdragon 865 chip, with the S20 coming with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The S20 Plus lets users get 512GB of storage, while the S20 Ultra lets you get either 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The new devices also feature a new 120Hz display, with an Infinity-O design. The 120Hz display will make everything really smooth on the display, but recent rumors have suggested that users will only be able to use the display with the 120Hz refresh rate when the resolution is set to 1080p (FHD+). When running at WQHD+ (1440p), you will only get refresh rates of 60Hz.

In terms of the display sizes, the S20 features a 6.2-inch display with 563ppi, the S20 Plus features a 6.7-inch display with 525ppi, and lastly, the S20 Ultra features a huge 6.9-inch display with 511ppi.

Let’s talk about the cameras now. As you can see from the renders above, Samsung has a new camera module design on the new Galaxy S20 line. Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Plus, for example, features a quad-camera setup — consisting of a 12MP main camera, a 64MP telephoto camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP front camera, and a 3D time-of-flight sensor. The regular S20 doesn’t have the time-of-flight sensor. However, both the devices will offer up to 30x digital zoom (“Space Zoom”), and 8K video recording at 30FPS.

And the S20 Ultra takes things to the next level with a crazy 108MP wide-angle camera lens, a 48MP telephoto lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 40MP front camera. The camera features 10x optical zoom and a whopping 100x digital zoom that will allow for a new Space Zoom feature. You will also get 8K video recording at 30FPS.

Battery wise, Samsung is including a 4000mAh battery on the regular S20, a slightly larger 4500mAh battery on the S20 Plus, and a 5000mAh battery on the S20 Ultra. You will also get up to 16GB of RAM on the S20 Ultra.

So yes, that’s the new Galaxy S20 line. Samsung is taking pre-orders for the devices today, with shipments expected to happen on March 6. The regular S20 will be avialable in Cosmic Gray, Cloud Blue, and Cloud Pink, while the S20 Plus will be available in Cosmic Gray, Cloud Blue, Cosmic Black, and the S20 Utlra will be in Cosmic Gray, and Cosmic Black. The regular S20 will be available starting at $999, the S20+ will be available for $1,199, and lastly the S20 Ultra will be available for $1,399.
