Nintendo has now sold 85 million Switch portable videogame consoles, with 28.8 million units sold in 2020 alone.

The milestones were announced as part of Nintendo’s fiscal year financial results, in which the firm revealed that its operating profit grew 81.8 percent year-over-year to $5.87 billion on revenues of $16.12 billion, itself a gain of 34.4 percent YOY.

“Sales of Nintendo Switch hardware and software both have performed well since the start of the fiscal year, contributing to the overall increase in sales,” a Nintendo statement explains. “Nintendo Switch sales have grown in all regions.”

Nintendo sold 28.83 million Switch units in the fiscal year ending March 31, split between 20.32 Switch units and 8.51 million Switch Lite units, with overall YOY growth of 37.1 percent. On the software front, total sales were up 36.8 percent YOY to 230.88 million units. The top-selling game was Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with 20.85 million units sold (32.63 million units overall). Nintendo also highlighted Super Mario 3D All-Stars (9.01 million units) and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (5.59 million).

Nintendo says it will launch a new blue color Nintendo Switch Lite on May 21. And the firm forecasts that it will sell another 25.5 million Switch units in its current fiscal year, with software sales of 190 million units.
