Right now we have relatively little idea about the performance changes we’ll see when Apple switches from Intel processors in its Macs to its own ARM-based Apple Silicon chips. We’re expecting to learn more tomorrow night at Apple’s November event – but we’ve just had a sneak preview.

A set of leaked Geekbench 5 scores, reported by AppleInsider, claim to give CPU results for the new Mac processor that’s likely to be called the A14X. According to the information, the processor has a base clock speed of 1.8GHz, with the ability to boost to 3.1GHz.

The processor has eight cores, with a combination of faster and slower cores, just like in Apple’s other A-processors.

In Geekbench, the processor scored 1,634 points for single-core, and 7,220 for multi-core. For comparison, Apple’s current fastest Mac laptop, the MacBook Pro 16in with a Core i9, scored just 1,096 and 6,869 points in the same test.

We don’t yet know which Macs will get the A14X chip, but it’s likely to be a consumer MacBook. These leaked scores, however, suggest that the chip is more suited to a MacBook Pro.
