Microsoft Whiteboard Picks up First Major Update Since Launch on iOS

Posted November 13, 2018 | iOS | Microsoft Whiteboard | Office 365 | Whiteboard | Windows

Microsoft’s real-time whiteboard collaboration app launched on the iPhone and iPad in September. Since then, the app didn’t really get much attention from Microsoft apart from the regular bug fixes.

The company today started rolling out a major new update for the app, introducing a couple of new features and improvements. Most of these features aren’t major, though it’s nice to see the app hasn’t been abandoned yet.

The update introduces a fancy new loading animation for when you open a new whiteboard. It’s also adding some human-ness to the AI-powered shape transform feature that turns your hand-drawn shapes and tables into much better-looking shapes and tables. This update, though, adds a hand-drawn effect to these objects so things look a lot more natural and not so rough.

The update comes with some accessibility related improvements, such as a new Accessibility Checker feature that will allow you to make sure everyone can read and edit your whiteboard. There’s a new feature that lets you lock any image to the background of your whiteboard so it never gets moved around, edited, or deleted randomly. Creating sticky notes is much easier too — just double tap and add text to create notes throughout your canvas.

The latest update for Whiteboard is now available on the App Store, so make sure to grab it here. And yes, these features already seem to be available on the Windows 10 version of the app, and I was honestly quite surprised to see that.
