Microsoft Posts Windows 11 Version 22H2 SDK, WDK, and EWDK

Posted September 1, 2022 | Dev | Windows | Windows 11

Microsoft hasn’t announced Windows 11 version 22H2, but it has now posted the RTM versions of its Software Development Kit (SDK), Windows Driver Kit (WDK), and Enterprise Windows Driver Kit (EWDK).

So, yeah. The communications no-show that is the Windows team continues.

“The Windows SDK (10.0.22621) for Windows 11, version 22H2 provides the latest headers, libraries, metadata, and tools for building Windows applications,” the Microsoft Developer website explains. “Use this SDK to build Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and Win32 applications for Windows 11, version 22H2 and previous Windows releases.”

“Starting with the Windows 11, version 22H2 release of the WDK and EWDK, the kits support Visual Studio 2022 exclusively, building and testing kernel-mode drivers for x64 and Arm64, building and testing drivers for Windows 10, Windows Server 2016 and later client and server versions, and side by side (SxS) support with previous WDK/EWDK,” the Microsoft Docs site says of the WDK and EWDK.

So I guess that clears up one question: Windows 11 version 22H2 will indeed continue to use that name, while it appears that the update you’ll use to upgrade to this version will be called the Windows 11 2022 Update.

Microsoft is expected to officially announce and release Windows 11 version 22H2 this month. You can read my review of Windows 11 version 22H2 here.
