Documentation for the Microsoft Edge Insider Preview has appeared online, suggesting that the first preview release is imminent.

The documentation, first spotted by The Walking Cat on Twitter, discusses two release channels for the coming browser, Microsoft Edge Canary and Microsoft Edge Dev, mimicking the multi-channel build system used by Chromium (which also has Beta and Stable channels). It’s aimed at troubleshooting the initial install of the browser as well as later updates.

The biggest and perhaps only revelation here is that the Edge Insider Preview may be limited to just 64-bit versions of Windows 10, at least at first. It’s expected to run on 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 eventually.

“Microsoft Edge Insider builds are currently only available on Windows 10 (64-bit),” the documentation explains. “Other versions of Windows are not supported at this time.”

The documentation points to a frequently asked questions (FAQ) page, too. But that is unfortunately unavailable at this time.

According to an internal Microsoft memo, the firm has expanded testing of Edge Canary to a much larger group inside the company. This, too, suggests that the release is imminent, and that Insiders could be getting a Canary or Beta version of the browser soon.
