We’re getting off to a slow start with Redstone 4, but Microsoft has just released a new build to the Fast ring and it is chock full o’ new features.

First, the bad news: Due to a bug, Microsoft says it is blocking PCs with AMD processors from receiving this build. It is investigating this bug and working on a fix that should let it can remove this block.

But here’s what’s new:

Microsoft Edge improvements. Microsoft Edge is receiving a ton of new features in this build, including Mute tab for those annoying auto-play video sites (I’m looking at you, ZDNet), the ability to (finally) save free EPUB files into your ebook library, more options for ebooks, and Near Share, which lets you wirelessly share files and URLs to nearby PCs on the same network.

Microsoft Store improvements. You can now shop for Surface hardware in the Microsoft Store(formerly Windows Store) app. Now you know why they changed the name. Also, I assume Insiders get a 10 percent discount on new hardware. What’s that? They don’t? Weird. (This functionality is currently available only in the US, UK, and Australia.)

Settings improvements. Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to improve Settings continues: This build provides improvements to Windows Update, Sound, and Ease of Access settings.

Touch keyboard improvements. The Touch keyboard picks up a nice Acrylic look and feel and the standard touch keyboard layout now offers over 190 more keyboards.

Handwriting panel improvements. You pen fans will enjoy a new layout, and new animations, in the handwriting panel, plus improved word correction and split gesture support for adding space between two words.

Hardware keyboard improvements. Microsoft has added text suggestion support for normal hardware keyboards, too: “You can see three text suggestions near caret while typing and choose candidates in text suggestions if you find a word you want to insert,” the firm notes. “Set focus to the first suggestion by tapping the up arrow key on your keyboard and using the left/right arrow keys to change focus. To select the desired candidate, tap space or enter.” It’s US-only at this time and you need to opt-in.
