The Microsoft Edge team is pledging to keep its customers up-to-date with what’s new in each stable release of the web browser. In this first update, it’s highlighting what’s new in the latest release plus a few features that are coming soon.

“Our Edge team is on a mission to redefine the way people browse the web,” Microsoft corporate vice president Liat Ben-Zur writes in a new post to the Windows Experience Blog. “We believe we should expect more from our web browser. Since the new Microsoft Edge launched in January, we’ve been continually adding new features and we’d like to share regular updates from the team as we create and build new web experiences for Microsoft Edge, Bing[,] and MSN.”

Here’s what’s new in Microsoft Edge:

“Send to OneNote” in Collections on Android and iOS. The recently-named feature “Collections send to OneNote” is now available on mobile alongside previous send-to targets Word and Excel.

Microsoft Family on Android. Microsoft Family support is now available on Android, in addition to Windows 10 and Xbox, so parents can have more visibility into their kids’ web browsing habits and can help protect them with content filters.

Picture Dictionary in Immersive Reader. Edge’s excellent Immersive Reader is picking up a new Picture Dictionary feature this month that provides a pictorial representation of a word on any webpage to help increase comprehension. “Ideal for those learning another language or for students learning on their own, it helps you stay in the flow of what you are reading,” Ben-Zure explains. “You’ll be able to simply click the word on a webpage and see a picture that represents the word.”

Highlighting and screen reader support in the PDF reader experience. The PDF toolbar in Edge now provides a Highlight tool so you can highlight relevant text passages using one of five highlighter colors. The PDF reader now also supports screen readers as well, Microsoft notes.

Encrypted sync in more Microsoft 365 educational accounts. Microsoft has expanded Edge’s support for encrypted sync of favorites, passwords, extensions, and collections to more students who sign-in to Edge with their Azure Active Directory-based school account.
