Microsoft Extends Support for Windows 10 Version 1709

Posted March 19, 2020 | Windows | Windows 10

Microsoft announced today that it will delay the scheduled end of service date for Windows 10 version 1709 by six months, to October 13. Note that this change impacts only the business and education versions of the product, not the consumer versions.

“We have been evaluating the public health situation, and we understand the impact this is having on you, our valued customers,” Microsoft’s John Cable writes in the announcement post. “To ease one of the many burdens you are currently facing, and based on customer feedback, we have decided to delay the scheduled end of service date for the Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 10 version 1709.”

Microsoft originally planned to end support for these products on April 14, 2020. But now, they will receive monthly security updates from May to October, with the final security updates released on October 13, 2020.

These security updates will be delivered by the normal means—Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services, and the Microsoft Update Catalog—so businesses won’t need to make any changes to continue receiving updates.
