iMac with Apple Silicon 'coming spring 2021'

Posted October 28, 2020 | Mac

If all goes according to plan, Apple will soon launch a new laptop with the same kind of proprietary ARM-based processor that’s currently available in the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We think it will be an update to the 12in MacBook.

The latest news on that front is that The China Times claims the new MacBook model will be equipped with an A14X, a processor that’s also set to appear in the next models of iPad Pro.

In all this talk of portable Apple products, it’s easy to forget the desktop machines with which the company made its name. But in fact, we are now learning that the all-in-one iMac will also soon get an Apple Silicon processor… it’s just that the launch will be delayed until the spring.

According to the newspaper, the new iMac model is equipped with an A14T processor that goes by the code name Mt Jade. Like the standard A14, the processor is based on 5nm technology, but the big difference is a new graphics processor called Lifuka.

Hopefully we will find out more details at Apple’s next event, which is expected to be held on 17 November.
