Google’s Core G Suite Apps Get Material Design on the Web

Posted January 16, 2019 | G Suite | Google | Material Design | Windows

Google started rolling out a major update for G Suite apps on the web. The company is introducing a new look for Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides, three of the core products of G Suite. Although most of G Suite already has Google’s Material Design, especially on mobile devices, Google is yet to introduce the new design for some others.

Until this week, that is.

The new updates to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides introduce a new Material Design-based look for the apps on the web. The updated design is coming to Google Sites on the web for G Suite users, too.

The updated design for the apps aren’t significantly different though, and that’s probably for the best. Google says the updated interface introduces a more consistent experience, with Google’s new custom-designed typography and crisp iconography.

The updates are rolling out gradually to Rapid Release domains for G Suite, and the full rollout will begin on February 11. The updates available to G Suite Basic, G Suite Business, G Suite Enterprise, G Suite for Education, G Suite Enterprise for Education, and G Suite for Nonprofits.
