Google announced today that it will welcome some employees back to its offices in April with a full reopening set for September.

“In the United States, the situation is mixed and we must continue to stay vigilant to prevent a new wave of the virus,” Google chief people office Fionna Cicconi says. “We are also seeing some hopeful improvements in parts of the country. I’m happy to say that over the next month, it is likely we’ll begin to welcome Googlers back to some of our U.S. offices on a voluntary basis.”

Google is “encouraging” its employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19, but it is not requiring it. Workers who do return will need to wear masks, practice social distancing, and pass a health survey. And any employee who is uncomfortable coming into the office will not be required to do so until at least September.

Microsoft previously announced that it would soft open its Redmond quarters this week and it plans to more fully open by July, though that could of course change.
