Today, Google announced the release of Android 12 Beta 5, adding that we’re just weeks away from the official release.

“As we put the finishing touches on the new version of Android, today we’re bringing you a final Beta update to help you with testing and development,” Google vice president Dave Burke announced. “For developers, now is the time to make sure your apps are ready.”

For me, now is the time I can move my new Pixel 5a off of the suddenly tired-looking Android 11 and start using the new system again: with Beta 5, the Pixel 5a has been added to the list of eligible devices, joining the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, 3a and 3a XL, 4 and 4 XL, 4a, 4a (5G), and the Pixel 5, plus select devices from other hardware makers.

As for new features, there aren’t any: Android 12 hit platform stability with the previous milestone, Beta 4, in early August.

“Stay tuned for the official Android 12 launch coming in the weeks ahead,” Mr. Burke adds.
