Google announced today that it is bringing verified SMS and real-time spam detection functionality to its Android Messages app.

“In addition to enhancing messaging on Android with Rich Communication Services (RCS) and bringing you helpful features with Messages, we also want to provide a safer messaging experience,” Google’s Roma Slyusarchuk writes.

On that note, Google is adding two features to Messages:

Verified SMS. Rolling out today in several countries— U.S., India, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., France, Philippines, Spain and Canada—Messages will display a business name, logo, and verification badge whenever it can confirm the true identity of a business that is texting you. More countries will come onboard soon, Google says.

Spam protection. This feature will you about suspected spam and let you help Google improve its spam models by letting you report spam texts in Messages at anytime and block conversations. Spam protection was previously available over the past year in “a number of countries,” Google says, but it is now rolling out broadly in the U.S.
