Google Home Now Supports Multiple Queries and Actions

Posted June 12, 2018 | Android | Chrome OS | Cloud | Google | Google Assistant | Google Home | Hardware | iOS | Mobile | smart home | Windows

With little fanfare, Google has bumped the number of simultaneous queries and actions its Home smart speakers can handle at once.

“You’re not the only one who can multitask,” the Made by Google Twitter accounted revealed via a tweet. “Now Google Home can perform up to three queries at a time, so you can get more done.”

Not specified in the original tweet, but added in a follow-up, Google also notes that this feature is available in English only and only in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

What this means is that you can say “OK, Google” (or “Hey Google”) once, and the Google Home device will listen to the next three things you ask. Previously, it could do this for only two queries.

Also, this capability appears to extend to actions, too. As you may recall. actions are essentially things that Google Home (and Google Assistant) can “do,” like translate languages, play games, and make online purchases on your behalf. They are similar to what Amazon calls skills for its Alexa platform.

What this means is that you can tie multiple actions into a single query. So instead of asking what the weather is in one location, you could ask for the weather in two (or more) locations.

I’ve not been able to get either feature to work on my own Google Home speakers, but this functionality is apparently rolling out over time. So I should see them soon.
