Microsoft’s Bethesda Softworks announced a major upgrade to Doom Eternal that brings optimizations for the Xbox Series X|S consoles.

“Wield the awesome power of the Doom Slayer like never before with Doom Eternal’s free next-gen upgrade today,” Microsoft’s Parker Wilhelm writes. “Update 6, available now, makes Doom Eternal Optimized for Xbox Series X|S, adding improved visuals, increased performance, and support for ray tracing and 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Update 6 also features a new Master Level to test your skills, a new Battlemode arena, and more.”

Naturally, I’m mostly curious about those Xbox Series X|S optimizations, which promise to deliver an even more impressive visual presentation. On Xbox Series X, you can now choose between three visual modes: Performance Mode, which requires a 120 Hz display (1800p at 120fps), Balanced Mode (2160p at 60fps), and Ray Tracing Mode (1800p at 60fps). And on Xbox Series S, you get two choices: Performance Mode: (1080p at 120fps) and Balanced Mode (1440p at 60fps).

It’s a big update, from what I can see: I saw this earlier today and it was roughly 50 GB on the Series X. But it should be worth it, on either console.
