Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Learn the history of Windows from another perspective

My Programming Windows series looks at how Windows and advancements in Windows were reactions to both competitors and programming trends of the day.

Also: If you were dumb enough to buy ebooks from Microsoft, your refund is on the way.

App pick of the week: Not Chrome

It’s time to move away from Google Chrome. I recommend Edge for Windows 7, 8, 10, and Mac, or Firefox if you’re less adventurous. Or Brave or Opera if you’re really adventurous. Be sure to turn off third-party cookie tracking.

Enterprise pick of the week: Adobe Document Cloud PDF Experience for Office 365 web app

For years, Office 365 business users were complaining about not being able to view, share and edit PDFs without downloading files first. Finally, problem solved.

Codename pick of the week: Excalibur

Excalibur seemingly has something to do with a possible new Surface device running ARM. Brad says Excalibur is the name of the SoC in a coming ARM-based Surface Pro. Windows Central says it’s the codename for the device itself.

Beer pick of the week: Dogfish Head Slighty Mighty

Most light beers are absolutely terrible. Dogfish Head spent 3 years trying to figure this out and they did an admirable job. Slighty Mighty is a 4%, 100-calorie American IPA thatΠhas taste!
