Component shortages delay new iMac, iPad Pro

Posted April 30, 2021 | Mac

During Wednesday’s quarterly report – one that shattered financial records once again – Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri were asked how the global shortage of semiconductors and other components is affecting the company.

The answer was that it primarily affects the supply of Mac and iPad, which in turn means that sales for the current quarter are estimated to be $3-4bn lower than it could and should have been, based on demand.

New models of iMac and iPad Pro were unveiled recently, but Apple has still not announced when they will become available in stores. Sources in British retail suggest they will appear on 21 May, but that date does not seem to be carved in stone.

In any case, the continuing effects of the component shortage mean we should expect long delivery times for Apple’s new iMacs and iPads once they are released.
