Apple’s big hardware event of the year is just about 2 days away. The hardware maker is expected to introduce a ton of new hardware on Wednesday, ranging from new iPhones to Apple Watch smartwatches. Cupertino is expected to kick off a season of what seems to be two of the best months of the industry if you are a fan of new hardware unveilings. Shortly after Apple’s big event on Wednesday, Microsoft is expected to introduce new Surface hardware on the 2nd of October, followed by new Pixel hardware from Google on the 9th of October.

As for Cupertino, Apple is introducing a total of three new iPhones: a 5.8-inch OLED iPhone, a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, and a 6.5-inch OLED iPhone. All of the new iPhones will include the iPhone X’s new design, along with Face ID for unlocking the device. So far, we already know that both of the premium OLED iPhones — the 5.8-inch and the 6.5-inch models — will be called the iPhone Xs, and the iPhone Xs Max. Today, Bloomberg is reporting that the cheaper 6.1-inch LCD iPhone could be called the iPhone Xr — with the “r” likely standing for “regular.” This isn’t the first time we have heard this name, though Bloomberg’s reporting does mention that the new model could be limited in availability.

Apple is reportedly trying to limit the availability of the new iPhone Xr to estimate the demand for the more premium versions.

While the iPhone Xr is expected to be the cheapest iPhone of the year, it could still cost comparatively higher than the regular iPhone 8 from last year, though. Apple is going to make the new iPhone Xr available in gold, though it will be slightly less powerful than the OLED models. Additionally, the 6.1-inch model won’t sport the dual-camera setup found on the new iPhone devices. What’s even more interesting is the fact that Apple could be taking away its 3D Touch technology on the 6.1-inch iPhone Xr, potentially replacing it with a completely software-based solution.

Apple’s expected to introduce a new Apple Watch, a new MacBook Air, a refreshed Mac Mini, new AirPods, its AirPower charger, and two new iPad Pros this year. Bloomberg says the company may not unveil all of its new hardware at once at this event, so there could be a second event in October.
