Apple removes iMac configurations ahead of launch

Posted March 22, 2021 | Mac

Hot on the heels of the news that Apple has stopped selling the iMac Pro, the company has also withdrawn the 512GB and 1TB SSD configurations of the iMac 21.5in 4K.

We had an inkling that this was coming. At the start of March we reported that these build-to-order options were showing up as unavailable in the UK, US and German stores, but at the time it was unclear if this was a simple lack of availability or something else. Apple has now officially removed those choices from the menu on its store.

You’re now left with a choice of either a 256GB SSD or a 1TB Fusion Drive, MacRumors reports.

It’s believed that Apple is phasing out its older models ahead of the launch of a new iMac based on Apple Silicon later this year. The new models could appear as early as the spring event, expected to take place in early April 2021; indeed, evidence shows that Apple is currently testing an unreleased iMac.
