Apple releases new M1 versions of Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro

Posted November 13, 2020 | Mac

Ahead of the launch of the new M1-equipped Macs, Apple has taken the opportunity to release new versions of its professional video- and audio-editing programs, this time without the suffix X.

(It’s worth noting at this point that the English translator of this article is still seeing the X on Apple’s product page and on the Mac App Store, although the web version of the store shows it without. It’s possible that you too won’t see the updated version immediately.)

Final Cut Pro 10.5 makes it possible, among other things, to create a copy of the library that automatically recodes the files to ProRes Proxy or H.264 in the desired resolution.

Logic Pro 10.6, in turn, offers the ability to control the Stop Sequencer function using the Logic Remote app.

Apple has also released new versions of Motion, Compressor and MainStage.

The new versions are free to download if you’ve purchased a previous version from the Mac App Store. If you’re a new user, Final Cut Pro costs £299.99/$299.99, while Logic Pro costs £199.99/$199.99. Motion and Compressor cost £48.99/$49.99 each, while MainStage costs £28.99/$29.99.
