Amazon is opening its own grocery store in the United States next year. The company published job listings for multiple positions for its first grocery store in Los Angeles and later confirmed it’s opening a grocery store to CNET. 

Amazon is not revealing many details about its first-ever grocery store, though it could rival the company’s own Whole Foods stores.

Amazon was recently rumored to have signed more than a dozen leases in Los Angeles, and that could be part of the company’s potential new grocery chain. The new grocery store in LA, which will be based in Woodland Hills, will be different from the company’s Amazon Go cashierless stores. Instead, the new store will feature a conventional checkout system. The company is staying tight-lipped about all the nitty-gritty details about the new store, though CNBC reports that Amazon could also be opening additional stores in Studio City and Irvine.

The company also said the new chain will be “distinct” from Whole Foods.

Amazon was rumoured to be working on a new payment system that uses your hand as ID for checking out back in September, and it’s possible the new system could be part of its new grocery chain.
