Which Macs will get the M1 processor next?

Posted November 12, 2020 | Mac

On Tuesday, Apple unveiled three Mac models: a new Mac mini, a new MacBook Air and a new MacBook Pro 13in, all equipped with the company’s new ARM-based M1 processor.

But the Apple Silicon revolution won’t stop there, and MacRumors has taken a look in its crystal ball and come to the conclusion that at least four more Macs will be equipped with the new processor in 2021. These are two new models of MacBook Pro (14in and 16in), a new 24in iMac, and a smaller version of the Mac Pro.

Some of the above computers will probably be launched in the spring of 2021, while others will have to wait until next autumn. Exactly what order they will launch in is unclear at time of writing, but it’s plausible that the new iMac will be first.

In related news, Apple has chosen to keep the Intel variants of the Mac mini and MacBook Pro 13in alongside the M1 variants. The MacBook Air, on the other hand, is now only available with an M1 processor. In the long run, all Intel variants will be phased out, but expect that process to take a few years to complete.
